Liposomes are vesicles formed by one or more concentrically arranged phospholipid bilayers that trap aqueous phases between them. Due to their physicochemical properties, they have the capacity to transport hydrophilic (water-soluble) molecules into the vesicle and hydrophobic (non-water-soluble) molecules into the lipid membrane.
Liposomes interact with cells through membrane-liposome fusion mechanisms.
